May 25, 2021 Forum Call:
As we work through recovery from COVID-19, many construction projects are plagued by increasing costs and delays. Knowing how to reach a consensus to work through problems can make all the difference between successful and defaulted projects. This month, Partner’s Chris Ghatak will be joined by Richard Steen and Marvin Schuldiner for a discussion of risk management provisions for construction loan/joint venture agreements and real-time solutions for dispute prevention and resolution during construction.

  • Richard H. Steen is an experienced mediator, arbitrator, trainer, and facilitator, and has served as a neutral in thousands of cases in the Federal and State Courts, for the American Arbitration Association, and in private proceedings. He is a past chair of the NJSBA Construction Law Section, founding chair of the NJSBA Dispute Resolution Section, and more.
  • Marvin Schuldiner is a past President and current Director of Civil Mediation Training for the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators, coordinating and teaching basic and advanced mediation courses as well as a mediation apprenticeship held in lower-level courts.

April 22, 2021 Forum Call:
In addition to new construction, our monthly calls sometimes touch on other issues related to building evaluation. Jay Kumar, a Technical Director in Partner’s engineering practice, will join us for this talk about the balcony inspection law now in effect in California (SB 721).

The law requires the inspection and sometimes costly repair of balconies, stairs, and other “exterior elevated elements” at multifamily properties in California not later than January 1, 2025. Though the inspection deadline is more than three years away, property owners are beginning to plan for compliance – and buyers and lenders are beginning to consider possible repairs during due diligence.

This session will cover the basics of the law and strategies to help avoid costly repairs and liabilities.
